چکیده

Seismic and acoustic noise from moving tracked vehicles was used to determine the seismic to acoustic signal coupling ratio (SAR) in the ground. The seismic signal received on a geophone contains some energy that has propagated as seismic waves and some energy that couples from acoustic waves to seismic waves in the vicinity of the geophone. We use the frequency domain coherence between the microphone and geophone signals to determine when the seismic signal is predominantly due to acoustic to seismic wave coupling. In frequency bands where the microphone and geophone coherence is above 0.8 the ratio of the seismic ground particle velocity to sound pressure, SAR, can be determined with less than 2 dB of error. The method is applied to data from a summer experiment with grass ground cover and at two winter experiments with snow covered ground. At 100 Hz, the summer analysis yields a SAR of 1x10 [(m/s)/Pa]. Also at 100 Hz, the two winter analyses yield SAR values of 0.1 and 1.0x10 [(m/s)/Pa]. In the later result the SAR using blank pistol shots gives very close values. These results can be used to remove acoustic contamination from seismic signals. We also show a loose correlation between the SAR values and the shear strength of the ground

Vehicle Cabin Noise Simulation due to High-frequencies Stimulation

In this paper, the acoustic environment in a vehicle cabin under the influence of highfrequencies aerodynamic sources has been studied. Some panels on the windshield, the roof, the doors, the front pillars, and the floor of a vehicle simulated as input source of noise when the car is moving at high speed, i.e. 112 km/h. The status of vehicle cabin in each of these modes has been studied and com...

Acoustic Source Localization Based on the Extended Kalman Filter for an Underwater Vehicle with a Pair of Hydrophones

In this study, we consider a special situation that only a pair of hydrophone on a moving underwater vehicle is available to localize a fixed acoustic source of far distance. The trigonometry can be used in this situation by using two different DOA of different locations. Notice that the distance between the two locations should be measured. Therefore, we assume that the vehicle is sailing stra...

Dual Roadside Seismic Sensor for Moving Road Vehicle Detection and Characterization

This paper presents a method for using a dual roadside seismic sensor to detect moving vehicles on roadway by installing them on a road shoulder. Seismic signals are split into fixed time intervals in recording. In each interval, the time delay of arrival (TDOA) is estimated using a generalized cross-correlation approach with phase transform (GCC-PHAT). Various kinds of vehicle characterization...

Seismic Attenuation Characterization Using Tracked Vehicles

Target classification is one of the most important issues in battlefield situational awareness. As seismic signals are an effective means of obtaining such information, any knowledge of the subsurface environment in which the target signal propagates is very important in either developing or fine-tuning classification algorithms. Seismic signal attenuation is an essential subsurface environment...

Utilizing the R/V Marcus G. Langseth’s streamer to measure the acoustic radiation of its seismic source in the shallow waters of New Jersey’s continental shelf

Shallow water marine seismic surveys are necessary to understand a range of Earth processes in coastal environments, including those that represent major hazards to society such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and sea-level rise. Predicting the acoustic radiation of seismic sources in shallow water, which is required for compliance with regulations designed to limit impacts on protected marine specie...
